There wasn’t much drama for national champion Clemson on National Signing Day. Everyone in the Tigers’ small recruiting class had faxed in their letters-of-intent by midmorning.
According to Dan Hope of the Independent Mail, it’s Clemson’s smallest class since 2009, which was Dabo Swinney’s first season as coach. The Tigers simply did not have all that many scholarships to offer.
As of Thursday morning, Clemson’s class ranks 15th according to 247 Sports, eighth per ESPN and 20th per Rivals, with its small size probably knocking it down a couple of notches.
“I really like this class from top to bottom,” Bleacher Report’s Sanjay Kirpalani told Hope. “Clemson to me has done a great job maximizing the spots they have. It’s just not a lot of guys, but they’ve got a lot of guys who can play.”
Among the highlights:
— QB Hunter Johnson, the No. 30 player in the country and No. 2 prostyle quarterback, according to 247.
— WR Tee Higgins (No. 19 overall, No. 2 WR)
— CB AJ Terrell (No. 55 overall, No. 6 CB)
It wasn’t exactly a hard sell for Swinney (even if most their recruits committed before the Tigers’ win over Alabama):
